Being able to know an entrepreneur can be a great thing that can expose you to what entrepreneurship completely entails. For me, one of our family friend's was an entrepreneur. He owned his own financial advising business and has had it for over 15 years. I've been able to talk to him and learn a lot on how he works and manages his company. While there are many great things such as setting your own work schedule and not having to report to a supervisor, there is also a lot of pressure on you since you oversee it all and make sure every client being taken care of to the best extent. After learning how much work is put into being an entrepreneur it can sounds a bit daunting, but the rewards of it definitely outweigh it. After hearing his stories from doing that, it has definitely inspired me to be more open to being an entrepreneur rather than just going to work for someone else.
I would like to get a larger perspective on entrepreneurship while taking ENT 3003. I have had an interest in the area of work and when I saw this was a class, it definitely looked like something for me. I hope to learn much more of what it takes to be an entrepreneur and gain some of the skills and mindsets of one.

ReplyDeleteWhile reading your description of your family’s friend, it reminded me of our reading for week 2, the section where the author draws distinctions between an entrepreneur and a small business owner. The author mentions that a small business owner ends up getting caught up managing everything and doesn’t have time left to develop and expand his ideas and business. Would you say that the author’s words accurately describe this friend? Like you, my experience has been that of observing another entrepreneur, learning from that person, and drawing conclusions about entrepreneurship based on the observation (http://lfrancie.blogspot.com/2016/01/my-entrepreneurship-story-week-2.html).
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome! Being able to observe and interact with an entrepreneur so personally must be a great experience. Everything he does and his philosophy will stay in your mind and you can check them against what this class is trying to teach you (or the other way around). I hope I can get more of such experience.
